On Saturday, December 22.1894, Claude Debussy made some final adjustments to the score for his ‘Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune’ just before the premiere performance.
20 years later, it‘s the dawn of WW I and in Thomas Mann‘s final chapter of The Magic Mountain Hans Castorp dreams of sun-drenched flowering meadows and blue skies, oblivion and blest stasis, while listening to Debussy's Prélude playing from a mechanical gramophone.
Debussy‘s signature is taken from his manuscript for the Prélude.
