about
RADIANCE VIII: TO HAVE ELEMENTS EXIST IN SPACE
An interpretation of Earle Brown’s seminal graphic score "December 1952", commissioned by the Earle Brown Music Foundation, New York in celebration of the composer's 90th Birthday.
“… to have elements exist in space… space as an infinitude of
directions from an infinitude of points in space…” EB
In 1997 I was invited to perform December 1952 at the HFM University of Music in Saarbrücken, Germany. Mr. Brown was in attendance and told me later over dinner that my version for prepared drum kit was “the most honest and touching” performance he had heard and encouraged me to record the piece.
It took me 20 year to finally do this while my ways of creating music have changed quiet substantially in the meantime. For this rendition I worked mainly with field recordings made during my visits to New York in 1994/95 and 2003, the ARP 2600 and Roland System 700 synthesizers, an electronic drum kit and shortwave receiver. This stereo version is a dedicated mix of the original 7:2 surround files.
